The tournament joins the US and Aussie Opens in employing video review systems.
Replay systems will make its debut at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.
Players are granted the option to contest particular calls made by the official, following the practice already in use at both the US Open and the Australian Open.
This technology will be operational on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the other four show courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This development arrives only a year after the All England Club implemented ELC, which effectively ended the longstanding tradition of line officials.
Reviewable Decisions
Competitors cannot to challenge the accuracy of the ELC system, but they can request the umpire to re-examine other situations, including:
- Whether a ball has double-bounced.
- If a shot touched an rival's racket or person during play.
- Potential interference end of a rally.
Importantly, there will be no limit on the amount of challenges a player can ask for.
Practical Application
A recent incident occurred in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the video challenge against Jack Draper.
The British player conceded it was a difficult situation for the official, but thought his rival had "played the rules effectively."
The umpire viewed a replay and ruled the player was responsible for hindrance, granting the rally to his opponent.
Growing Trend
Video reviews are not exclusive to Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have the system implemented at every one of its events.
Other Changes
Another change at The Championships 2025 will be the addition of graphical cues on displays to support the audio calls from the ELC system.
This addresses instances where fans have sometimes been unsure whether a ball was out or in.
In other news, with precisely a century of days to go until the start of the Championships, the AELTC have further revealed an increase in daily capacity at the qualifying competition in Roehampton.
